Green Schools

Kilrane NS is very proud of all our children who are committed to our green school programme. (http://www.greenschoolsireland.org/)

We have, through much hard work and commitment, been presented with our ‘Litter and Waste’ flag and also our ‘Energy’ flag.  Both flags indicate the work of our committee and all the other pupils and staff.

The green school programme, this year being led by teacher Ms Marie Roche, is looking at ‘Water’.  This theme will focus on our use of water, its source, where waste water goes to and how we can conserve it.  The water theme is a two year programme which starts in September 2012.

Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment. The aim of Green-Schools is to increase students’ and participant awareness of environmental issues through classroom studies and to transfer this knowledge into positive environmental action in the school and also in the wider community.
